Looking to get a new phone?  Here are some of the most notable ones released in the past two months!  In addition to the smartphones, we get brand-new laptops from ASUS and a Lenovo Legion Go device.

POCO X7.

POCO X7

The striking black and yellow color scheme of the Xiaomi sub-brand POCO X7 is renowned for its youthful and capable design. Two variants came out in January: the base and the Pro.  The latter is known for being the first phone with the Mediatek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chip, a midranger that’s drawn praise for its performance and efficiency.

The Pro boasts a huge 6,000mAh battery with 90-watt fast-charging.  Both have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Price:

The X7 costs P14,999 to buy.

HONOR X9c 5G

HONOR X9c 5G

The X9c 5G made some of the loudest noise in the first month of the year with stunts that touted its durability, including being dropped off from a helicopter, or tossed into a pot of boiling water.  Although you probably wouldn't do these things in real life, at least you can hold the brand accountable if your phone broke too easily. It has a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip, so its performance is slightly lower than that of the Dimensity 8400 in the POCO model above, which is meant to compete with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip. The cameras, led by a main camera with 108 megapixels, have performed well.

It boasts an even bigger battery at 6,600mAh with 66-watt fast-charging.

ONE PLUS 13

One of the few non-Apple and Samsung flagships that exudes coolness is the OnePlus 13. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a triple-camera setup with 50MP across the board—wide, ultrawide, and tele—are all features you'd expect from a flagship phone. It has a 6,000 mAh battery with 100-watt supercharging, surpassing Samsung and Apple flagships with an IP69 rating instead of the usual IP68 for water and dustproofing. Its "fe" or "e" version, the 13R, has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that is less powerful and has lower camera specs, an IP65 rating, and fastcharging (80 watts). Price:

 13 – Starts at P54,990

13R – Starts at P38,990

REDMI NOTE 14

REDMI NOTE 14

The Redmi Note 14 is another phone from a sub-brand of Xiaomi. The POCO X7 Pro is also in competition with its Pro variants. In fact, that is what we compared it to in our review, with the Note 14 Pro's cameras holding the advantage: “The Note 14 Pro+ is another solid addition to Xiaomi’s ever-growing mid-range stable, packing everything you could possibly expect from a phone in this price segment.  That said, when it comes to value for money, I think it could be better.  The X7 Pro, in my opinion, provides more value for the money you pay for it. However, if you want cameras with a higher resolution, I would recommend the Note 14 Pro+. The Note models also have a more mature appearance than the X7 does. Price:

LENOVO LEGION GO S

The Legion Go S is a smaller and cheaper version of the Legion Go from last year. It also comes with a SteamOS model that will be available in May. For now, what’s available is the Windows 11 version, which has a start price of P44,995.

The AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, which is already present in the Go 1, or a more recent, less expensive, but slightly less efficient Ryzen Z2 Go are both available for use in the Go S. The Go S loses the detachable controllers, and has a smaller, slower, lower resolution screen (8-inch, 1920 x 1200, 120Hz LCD, VRR) compared to the original (8.8-inch, 2560 x 1600, 144Hz, VRR), but has a slightly better battery (55.5Whr) versus the original’s 49.2 Whr.  In addition, the maximum RAM capacity of the Go S will be 32GB, up from the original's 16GB. Price: Starts at P44,995

SAMSUNG GALAXY S25

At Samsung's annual Unpacked event in January, the Ultra model, which has a redesigned exterior, a set of AI-focused features, and improved ergonomics, was the flagship model of the S-series. In our still-in-progress review, we stated that the S25 Ultra is "a continuation of what the S24 started — you continue to see Samsung's shift from a focus on hardware and camera to a focus on AI features," which is more cohesive this year. HUAWEI NOVA 13

Huawei's Nova 13 is a midrange smartphone with a Kirin 9000 processor. The phone's main selling point is its camera, which reflects the company's long history of powerful imaging, as demonstrated by the Pura 70, which won the DxoMark competition last year. The 13 Pro has triple rear cameras—two of which have optical image stabilization and the third is a macro—and two selfie cameras—60MP ultrawide and 8MP portrait—a rarity in today's market. The 13 has a single selfie camera, two rear cameras, and a less powerful Kirin 8000 chip. If you want 5G connectivity, both are only 4G-capable phones. Price:

OPPO RENO 13

OPPO's premium midrange Reno series, which competes with the likes of the OnePlus 13, takes design cues from Apple and produces a unit that is distinctly luxurious to the touch and appearance. It boasts a Dimensity 8350 chipset, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, a triple-camera setup for the Pro and a dual for the base, and an IP69 rating like its OnePlus rival.  The base model has a 5,600 mAh battery, while the Pro model has a 5,800 mAh battery. Both models can fast charge at 80 watts. A midrange F variant also exists, with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip, 8GB RAM, and 45-watt fastcharging.
